Relay for Life raises record sum





It appears Taranaki generosity knows no bounds after a record amount was raised during the Cancer Society's annual Relay for Life.
A total of 107 teams cheap prom dresses 2011, averaging 10 walkers per team cheap grad dresses, poured $187 prom dresses 2011,000 into the kitty to help provide Cancer Society services for Taranaki people.
Walkers did sponsored laps of the New Plymouth racecourse to raise the funds. "It was absolutely unbelievable. It was the highest total ever � and there's still more to come," a tired but happy Cancer Society of New Zealand Taranaki Centre finance officer Linda Collins said yesterday.
"It was absolutely fantastic. Even though the weather wasn't the best it was drier than expected," she said.
The team members cheap prom dresses, many of whom camp overnight and remain for the whole of the 24-hour event short prom dresses, also fundraise for months.
The money provides ongoing supportive care to more than 500 people diagnosed with cancer in Taranaki.
The team members take turns to keep the relay going overnight as well as joining in the activities in a carnival atmosphere.
This year a new activity, Ms Relay prom dresses, was dreamed up. Men brave enough donned ballgowns for the beauty contest and talent quest at 2am yesterday.
"That was hilarious. Some of the talent was a bit suspect," Ms Collins said.
The moving Candle Light Ceremony was held at 8.45pm on Saturday to remember those lost to cancer.
Taranaki bands entertained cheap short prom dresses, donating their time for free grad dresses 2011, and there were information stands.
