BETSEY JOHNSON was awarded The Medal of Honor for Lifetime Achievement in Fashion by The National Arts Club Fashion Committee Tuesday night at a ceremony that was, like the designer herself, both touching and high-spirited.
"This was the most amazing, fun, happy night and greatest feeling, second to childbirth!" Johnson told VOGUE.COM afterwards. "I was so thrilled to have everyone celebrate and show their love. I am honoured to be recognised in such a wonderful way by the NAC."
After a heartfelt introduction by the International Fashion Syndicate's Marylou Luther (who Johnson said has been her "cheerleader" since they met in the Sixties), the designer's business partner, Chantal Bacon, said a few words and then artist Dianne Bernhard presented Johnson - who was wearing a pink tutu and Marilyn Monroe T-shirt - with two original BJ portraits, one of which will hang in the ##############,ghd glatteisen, the other for Johnson's personal collection. Today I am leaving for a two week vacation to Europe. My long lost college roommate and I are going to be hitting up Spain and Italy and in Italy Vlad will be meeting up with us for a Gondola ride or two! I am super excited for this vacation and this time will actually be vacationing. We are lucky enough to have someone who will write posts for me while I am gone, Nerdphanie!
