Visio add-on Microsoft Visio (pronounced /'vzi.o/ VIZ-zee-oh), (formerly known as Microsoft Workplace Visio), is a commercial diagramming program for Microsoft Windows that uses vector graphics to create diagrams. The current version, Microsoft Visio 2010 for Windows, is available in three editions: Standard, Professional and Premium. Unlike the core Workplace 2007 applications,Office Professional 2007, Microsoft Visio 2007 did not feature the Ribbon user interface, but Microsoft Visio 2010 does. Visio is not developed for the Mac OS X or Linux operating systems. Due to a proprietary Visio file format,Office Home And Student 2010, few Mac OS X or Linux diagramming programs can read Visio files. Omnigraffle Pro on the Mac can read and write Visio files.[1]
The Standard and Professional editions both share the same interface, but the latter has additional templates for more advanced diagrams and layouts as well as unique functionality that makes it easy for users to connect their diagrams to a number of data sources and display the information graphically.[2][3] The Premium edition has three additional diagram types with intelligent rules support, validation and subprocess (diagram breakdown) support.[4]
Microsoft acquired Visio Corporation in 2000. Enterprise Network Tools, an add-on product enabling automated network and directory services diagramming, and Visio Network Center, a website where users could locate the latest network documentation content and exact-replica network equipment shapes from 500 leading manufacturers, were released alongside version 2002.[5] The former has been discontinued,Office Pro Plus 2007 Key, while the latter's shape-finding features are now integrated into the program itself.[6] Visio 2007 was released on November 30, 2006.1 Versions

Visio began as a standalone product produced by Shapeware Corporation; version 1.0 shipped in 1992. Just before 1.0 shipped, Shapeware Corporation changed their name to Visio Corporation to take advantage of market recognition and related product equity. Microsoft acquired Visio in 2000, re-branding it as a Microsoft Office application, like Microsoft Project; however, it has never been included in any of the Office suites. Microsoft included a Visio for Enterprise Architects edition with some editions of Visual Studio .NET 2003 and Visual Studio 2005.[7]Visio 1.0 (Standard,Office 2010 Pro Key, Lite, Home).
