An estimated 75 A Line prom dresses,000 Picnic Day attendees were greeted with a warm, sunny Saturday for UC Davis' open house.
While many enjoyed the spring day outside listening to the Battle of the Bands or going to the dachshund races, others went inside to look at bug displays purple prom dresses, hear lectures and attend a fashion show.
Freeborn Hall was nearly full with a few hundred people for the Signature Collections fashion show. The show began with the Red Dress Collection to raise awareness that heart disease is the leading cause of death among women.
UCD student designers then showed single pieces that weren't part of a collection before 25 designers revealed their collections.
Many of the designs were colorful, full of pinks, purples and blues. Others decided for more subdued pieces, some nature-themed, dark or futuristic. Audience members began clapping loudly when a woman walked the runway in a dress that had pieces of broken mirrors.
Denise Tirado, a third-year double major in fashion design and pre-optometry, was part of a collection that included candy-themed dresses, appropriate for the name of the designer, Candy Yang. Tirado wore a blue dress covered in Skittle-type candies grad dresses 2011, a rainbow of color.
This year was Tirado's first year modeling and she plans to model again next year before designing her own collection.
"It was super amazing," she said once the show ended.

Fujii, one of two directors of the show, said she only got one hour of sleep. But she wasn't ready to sleep just yet.
"I have a lot of adrenaline pink prom dresses," Fujii said once the show ended.
While some might have rested after, at least a few models could be seen enjoying the rest of Picnic Day.
Arrests up at 2011 Picnic Day
As of 5 p.m. Saturday, there were six arrests ball gowns 2011, all alcohol-related, said UCD Police Chief Annette M. Spicuzza. In 2010, two arrests had been made by the same time.
Spicuzza said 19 medical calls had been made, which was up from last year's 11. Most medical calls were alcohol-related.
While the numbers were up for both arrests and medical aid, Spicuzza said the campus' quad was "much quieter" than last year. This was a result of efforts to bring Picnic Day back to its traditions as a family-friendly day.
"People were orderly and polite cheap prom dresses," Spicuzza said.
UCD and Davis police have "more eyes out there" looking for potential violators, she said.
A safety enhancement zone was also in place from 6 p.m. Friday through 6 a.m. today in downtown Davis and along Russell Boulevard. People faced fines of $395 per violation, including general noise, urinating in public plus size prom dresse, open containers of alcohol and smoking violations.
In addition cheap long prom dresses, some houses put yellow caution tape around the edges of the property so people would know where they could drink. If they were inside the tape Formal dresses, they were on private property but outside they would be on public grounds.Topics related articles:
