So my first few experiences with Pourtal were less than memorable. Not bad per se polo dress shirts, but this place just had a bougie (yes, I love this word and I love that it comes from the French word "bourgeois") ambiance and pretentious atmosphere. Anyway - I was sure that I wouldn't go here again, Botega has reigned as my wine bar of choice back since the only location they had was in Pasadena.
But here I am, eating my words - or drinking them perhaps, because on St. Patrick's Day we surely did end up here. Brittania and Ye Olde King's Head were both so packed, we wandered over to Pourtal cheap newport cigarettes, beckoned by the promise of "Vinho Verde." Now Vinho Verde isn't actually a "green wine" as the name may lead you to believe, the "green" refers to the the fact that it is a young wine. It's light and fresh, yet not overly sweet but absolutely delightful - especially if you're not a big wine drinker. The bartender was helpful, and pretty friendly, but I still didn't love the vibe Newports Cigarettes, it just wasn't inviting - I felt myself wanting to leave after about 30 minutes.
