The History On The Pink Sheets And What You Need To Know (OTC Pink Sheets)

The knowledge people have about investing and stocks is limited to what is only seen on the major stock exchanges boards, shown in financial news reports bra lingeries, on TV and the daily listings of the stock value fluctuations in newspapers. However, there are investors who would rather invest their money in smaller companies than those shown on TV and in newspapers.
These are called the microcap stocks, which can be found in the Pink Sheets. Getting familiar with how the Pink Sheets started is useful for any potential investor who wants to invest in a micro-capitalization company.
In 1913, the National Quotation Bureau, a U.S-based company began reporting bond quotations and stock quotations from different markets, using yellow sheets of paper to publish bond quotations and pink sheets of paper for these stock quotations.
The reports published by the National Quotation Bureau had been a great help to stock traders, especially for OTC or over-the-counter investors and dealers, and over time, OTC stock trading has been closely associated with the term "pink sheets".
In 1997, the National Quotation Bureau changed its management, with the new mission of using technology to further improve the services it offers to its customers. Soon after the take over, the NQB developed and introduced the Electronic Quotation Service, an online-based real-time quotation of OTC stocks and bonds. In 2000, the NQB changed its name to Pink Sheets LLC and launched a web portal for valuable information on OTC issuers and securities.
Recently, they changed their name to what is now more popular known as ######y lingerie, Pink OTC Markets, Inc. Upon the changing of its name, the company called for a press release to say that the company changed to a corporation from a limited liability company to reflect and communicate better; the company's position not only as a financial provider lace corset top, but also as a technology leader for all OTC securities.
They are a private company, not a stock exchange company. It used to publish quotations on pink sheets of paper, but since it has undergone computerization, it now issues quotations through its electronic quotations system. However, brokers and market makers use them to publish stocks for sale and ask for bids.
Companies listing and trading theirs stocks in stock exchanges need to meet certain requirements, such as filing their financial statements with the SEC. Each stock exchange has minimum listing requirements including the total market value, the number of shares traded publicly, the stock price, and the number of shareholders. Pink Sheets on the other hand does not require companies to meet any of these requirements.
While companies quoted under them, do not need to meet any requirements, those with operating businesses and stocks traded over-the-counter must provide their substantial disclosure of audited financials to Pink OTC Markets Inc. These companies are those listed with the Pink Sheets OTCQX under the two tiers, the PremierQX, and the PrimeQX for companies that are too small to fall under the PremierQX, but still fulfill the reporting requirements.
Since 2007, all companies that could not meet the OTCQX requirements were categorized as Limited Information, Current Information, Caveat Emptor, or No Information. Pink OTC Market use these categories to provide more valuable information on the companies and not to indicate the quality of the companies' stocks.
Investors considering investing in these companies should still be cautious as the listings may possibly include questionable, speculative, or distressed companies.
