(CNN) -- World 100 measure disc holder Usain Bolt made a winning return to action after a nine-month injury lay-off, beating rival Asafa Powell in Rome.

British world and European champion Phillips Idowu took first location in the men's treble jump before of Christian Olsson of Sweden thanks to his bound of 17.59m.

It was triple Olympic champion Bolt's first representation since he lost to American sprinter Tyson Gay August last year, after which he was blighted by Achilles and back problems.


Ethiopia's Imane Merga won the 5,000m while Italian long-jumper Andrew Howe delighted the throng at winning his secondary event, the 200m.
A disappointed Powell said afterward the race: "The feud is that Usain ran his race and I likewise ran his race. I didn't linger relaxed alternatively focused."


Powell finished second on 9.93 secs with Christophe Lemaitre of France third in accurate 10 seconds at the Golden Gala event in Italy.
The Jamaican, who also holds the 200m world record,ghd IV Kiss Styler, looked rusty but revived from a sluggish start to beat his guy native to the line in 9.91 seconds.

The 24-year-old was slow out of the blocks with Powell taking a mandating lead after the 50m jot. But Bolt burst behind in style to overtake his rival in the ultimate few strides.
"It was no faultless but I'm very merry. It could have been better, yet I'm immediately looking ahead to my second race (of the season)," AFP quoted Bolt for mentioning.
