Regular readers of this space kas long asthe Nixon tapes are regarded here in Swampland as the gift that keeps on giving. And when we haven’t already had time to listen to anyone of the 154 hours that were unlocked today, reporters who have are ascertaining some jewels. Such as this from NPR’s Nina Totenberg:
“There are periods when one abortion namely needful. I understand namely. When you have a dark and a pearly,” he told one assistant, ahead adding: “Or a rape.”
And this interchange with the future Bush 41, for reported by CNN’s Elaine Quijano:
Bush replies, “I’ll surely reserve it in idea.”
Nixon worried that greater access to abortions would foster “permissiveness,
monster beats,” and said that “it breaks the home.” But he also saw a need for abortion in some cases, such as interracial pregnancies.
“I noticed a couple of very magnetic women, either of them Republicans, in the authority,” Nixon told Bush. “I want you to be sure to accentuate to our people, God, let’s look for some… Understand, I don’t do it for I’m because women,
Cheap ghds, but I’m act it because I think possibly a matron might obtain someplace where a man might not… So have you got that in mind?”
President Nixon reacted privately to the Supreme Court’s 1973 decision legalizing abortion by mentioning he believed some abortions were necessary,
cheap ghds, as in cases of rape or interracial mating.
In February of 1973,
Cheap ghds, President Nixon called future premier and then-Republican National Committee leader George H.W. Bush, and recounted a recent visit to the South Carolina state legislature.
