Die Geschichte von Coco Chanel

Coco Chanel wurde am 19. August 1883 als zweite Tochter eines Straßenhändlers in Saumur in der Auvergne geboren. Eigentliche Name war Gabrielle Chasnel.
Sie war ein uneheliches Kind. Die Mutter, die die Ehe vortäuschte, ließ ihre Tochter auf den Familiennamen des Vaters taufen. Durch einen Schreibfehler im Taufbuch wurde “Gabrielle Chasnel”. Als Gabrielle Chanel eingetragen und auch später nicht wieder korrigiert. Aufgewachsen ist Chanel in sehr ärmlichen Verhältnissen. Als sie zwölf Jahre alt war, verstarb die Mutter und der Vater lieferte seine beiden ältesten Töchter in einem Waisenhaus ab, während sich ein Verwandter um die übrigen vier Kinder kümmerte.
Mit 16 Jahren wurde Chanel aus dem Waisenhaus entlassen. Es war das erste Parfum, das nicht nach Blumen roch, sondern durch eine sogenannte Aldehydnote geprägt war. 1926 entwarf sie das erste “Kleine Schwarze”, kürzte die Röcke auf eine (damals) skandalöse Länge knapp unterhalb des Knies und entwarf neuartige gestrickte Badeanzüge mit Bewegungsfreiheit, die auf Oberschenkellänge endeten und unter denen Shorts hervorblickten. Sie verwendete erstmals figurbetonende Jerseystoffe für eine sportlichere Linie.

Die bis ins hohe Alter aktive Coco Chanel starb am 10. Januar 1971 während der Vorbereitungen für eine weitere Kollektion im Alter von 87 Jahren in Paris.
