MANSFIELD -- Cherie Ferguson is having a fun time as prom season rolls around.
High school students are choosing to wear everything from traditional prom attire to gowns and tuxes with themes -- including camouflage.
"Huge this year is camouflage tuxes, the whole thing, jacket, pants and vest," said Ferguson, owner of Cherie's Bridal Mart, 2076 W. Fourth St.
"I've had students ordering them. We have camouflage couples going to prom, wearing the gown and tux in camouflage cheap guest dresses, from Lucas plus size prom dresse 2011, Shelby and Ontario schools," Ferguson said.
"Some of the students are arriving at prom on John Deere tractors. It's all about being unique and having a theme cheap long prom dresses, whether it be John Deere, a cowboy look ... or the 1940s Hollywood look cheap short prom dresses," she said.
Ferguson said girls are choosing unique gowns.
"Girls are wanting jeweling on the dresses. They like multi-colored print, sweeping trains. This year it is a real mixture Formal dresses," she said. "Really bright Bridesmaid dresses, tropical colors are popular."
Some girls are going with an elegant 1960s look, similar to Jackie Kennedy's, Ferguson said.
Nationally, short dresses are big, but Ferguson isn't seeing much of that trend locally.
"I am seeing the old glamour, Hollywood look A-Line prom dresses," she said.
For the guys, Ferguson said she has 110 color choices in tuxedos.
"And we are seeing a lot of different color choices. They're stepping out of the traditional, and moving into the more daring pinstripes Cocktail dresses, the old gangster look," she said. "We have a chocolate-on-chocolate stripe tux, and traditional black-and-white pinstripe with the hat ball gowns, which are popular."
Drena McCurdy, owner of Theresa Ann's Bridal & Fine Clothing, 20 Industrial Drive, Lexington, said girls are choosing a wide array of looks.
"I have girls buying long and short. Crazy colors are in," she said. "I'm seeing dresses with all different colors. .... I am not selling a lot of sequins," McCurdy said.Topics related articles:
