Authentic Italian Restaurants
The notion that pizza and pasta with tomato sauce are the two only two things that Italian cuisine is all about doesn't sit well with me. I see people everywhere eating spaghetti with heavy sauce at a restaurant that claims to be Italian, but they really are just horrible remakes. Just because you decided to open a can of marinara sauce does not mean you have the right to make your customers believe that they are eating authentic Italian dishes. Because I am passionate about Italian cuisine, let me set the record straight on what authentic Italian cooking really is, since most people are unaware that there are many other authentic Italian dishes that exist out there.
One thing to understand about Italian cuisine is that there is no general cuisine to represent the entire country of Italy. Before the year 1861, Italy was composed of different regions. Each region's popular local dishes contain ingredients that can be found in abundance locally. This differs from region to region. The food in each region is also prepared in their own distinct style. The Tuscans prefer to cook the traditional way, while other regions are more experimental. Bolognese dishes are typically bold, while other regions prefer to cook light dishes. Different regions have different cooking styles and preferences, but what all Italian cuisines have in common is balance.
Italians are not a fan of adding too much garlic powder or what other seasonings you may have in mind. Italians do not like to go overboard when it comes to ingredient use. They like to enhance the subtle flavors of their ingredients and not to have one ingredient overpower the other. To ensure that their dishes are flavorful, they use only the freshest ingredients. They don't believe in serving dishes that aren't freshly cooked. If you order a traditional Italian pizza, you will notice that the crust is not greasy, or thick and hard. The pizza dough is made fresh daily and is kneaded by hand. They never use frozen pizza dough.
Now, how will you know that you are eating the traditional dishes and not just an American remake of one? You will find the answers by observing how they cook in the local restaurants in Italy. Italian restaurants have only one recipe for making their dressing; the ingredients are olive oil, vinegar, salt and pepper-just that! They keep their dressing simple because it's all about the salad. The lettuce and other salad greens should remain crisp. Some local Italian restaurants serve their diners only the oil and vinegar set, so they can create their own dressing. Tasting only garlic powder in your salad is not a good sign, and it would serve you well to just leave the restaurant.
Italians are not into using heavy cream in their sauces. Italians can eat for hours on end, so for them to finish the entire meal, buy christian louboutin online, they have mastered the art of cooking light but delicious dishes. So, if you find that your spaghetti ala carbonara has a very thick and rich sauce to the point that you feel guilty in eating it, well maybe you should because you really aren't eating Italian.
