Have you heard of Opening Ceremony?
The American fashion label, created by best-friends-since-college Carol Lim and Humberto Leon, has been featured in magazines such as Vogue and People. The pair designs clothes — often in collaboration with other famous people and labels cheap long prom dresses, including Chlo? Sevigny, Repetto, agnés b., Pendleton and Rodarte — that they sell in their Opening Ceremony stores in New York, Los Angeles and Tokyo.
“Every collaboration always started off with a personal experience or story,” says Ms. Lim. “We decided to do something with Levi’s because it’s hard to be American and not have a pair of vintage Levi’s jeans.” Their spring collection of “Levi’s for OC” pays homage to the chambray fabric.
Knowing the right people helps Bridesmaid dresses, too. The idea of collaborating with Ms. Sevigny came from the actress, a longtime friend. She brought up the idea of creating a few dresses with Opening Ceremony, and the project turned into a 70-piece collection, complete with shoes and sunglasses. Her Opening Ceremony shirts featuring Liberty fabric gained a cult following.
“We actually went to college with the girls [Kate and Laura Mulleavy] who started Rodarte,” says Mr. Leon cheap prom dresses 2011, a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley. “So doing something together was a conversation we started many years ago. It’s amazing to see how detail-oriented they were — it was down to the type of yarn we were using.” Their favorite picks for this collection Formal dresses, now available in stores, include a leather-stamped cropped halter dress and a line of swimsuits.
Are the Opening Ceremony pair opening a store in Hong Kong? Not yet A Line prom dresses, although their line is available at Lane Crawford. But their concept for the OC shop was based on the city’s shopping experience.
“In Hong Kong you have your glossy department stores like Joyce and I.T., and right next door, you have the flea markets on the streets pink prom dresses 2011,” says Mr. Leon. “And people shop that way — pick up a dress at Lane Crawford plus size prom dresse 2011, and hop in a cab to Mongkok to pick out some gadgets and accessories. We wanted to do the same — to do it all — in one store.”
That’s why you’ll find US$5 trinkets next to $20,000 couture dresses at OC. Depending on your taste and price point, you could leave the store with a suit purchased for $200 or $2,000.
This August A-Line prom dresses, look for OC’s newest collaboration with fashion house MM6 to launch. In the meantime, the two, who claim never to have had an argument in the nine years they’ve worked together, will be on an Asia-wide trip, stopping next in Beijing and Shanghai. They always leave time for shopping of their own.
“My favorite purchase in Hong Kong has been this laser-light machine that can turn my living room into a dance club,” says Mr. Leon. For Ms. Lim? “A deck of Kobe Bryant playing cards from Temple Street and a new metallic-purple cover for my BlackBerry cheap Formal dresses,” she says.Topics related articles:
