The basic physique with the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) on Thursday directed the civic administration to empower ward officers with rights to create corrections in drinking water bills. The choice was taken in the watch of a higher amount of complaints of inflated h2o bills in the twin cities.
Speaking on the meeting, Pimpri-Chinchwad mayor,
Cheap Office Professional Plus 2007, Yogesh Behl, said the officers on the drinking water provide department ended up harassing the residents about drinking water expenses. “These officers are not listening to the citizens and are sending excessive water charges to them. The officers are forgetting that drinking water supply is a service, not a business,” he explained.
“Citizens had reported delay in making changes in h2o charges. Hence, if the power to rectify the wrong expenses is given to officers in the ward level then it will be a big relief for the residents,” he explained.
Despite strong opposition, the PCMC under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) had introduced the h2o meter system in 2009. The civic physique had invested Rs60 crore for purchasing h2o meters.
Residents within the twin cities of Pimpri-Chinchwad as well as public representatives have expressed discontent over faulty water meter systems.
Corporators on Thursday expressed dissatisfaction about the water meter system on the GB meeting. Demanding a probe into the matter by the civic chief, former mayor Azam Pansare asked how civic officials could distribute payments of Rs30,000 instead of Rs3,

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) corporator, Ulhas Shetty, mentioned that after the installation of h2o meters in Pimpri-Chinchwad,

Residents have to visit the PCMC office repeatedly to settle the water payments, but officers continue to behave arrogantly with them. Such mistakes would not have occurred if there was a computerised billing system in spot, he added.
Behl directed the civic administration to take immediate steps to resolve the issue. He also mentioned that an all-party meeting or a special common entire body meeting will be called if the administration fails to resolve the issue.
