Goodbye, Halos

Andy Pettitte stepped up again into the role of stopper, ending the Yankees’ nine-game season set against the Angels with their third victory. For Pettitte, the seven strong innings translated into his fifth consecutive victory,Montreal Expos Hats,Looking for Control, and at a time in the season when some of the rotation is faltering, Pettitte — always a reliable arm in the second half — is picking up steam.
The next time the Yankees could see the Angels in the calendar year 2007, it would be October, and that suits them just fine. Should the Yankees achieve their goal of postseason play, they’ll take their chances with the Halos, but until then … they’ll cut their losses,Cheap MLB Snapback Hats, take satisfaction in keeping the big red ‘A’ halo off for a night, and overall just pleased to be done in Orange County.
The victory seems to have boosted the Yankees’ morale after two losses at Anaheim, including an extra-inning heartbreaker and an embarrassing blowout. The clubhouse was boisterous and noisy as the players readied for their trip toward Detroit, where the competition doesn’t get much easier after the off-day Thursday.
Though the Yankees aren’t upset to hear news that Gary Sheffield is likely to miss much of the weekend, they’re not relying on the fact that they played the Tigers well last week in taking three of four. As Jorge Posada said, now it moves to their building. The push resumes Friday at Comerica Park.
