After reports emerged claiming that chicken nuggets manufactured by the U.S. corporation McDonald's contain traces of two "harmful" chemicals,Microsoft Office Pro 2010, the State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) started a program to monitor McNuggets and other products that may contain the additives on June 6, according to Beiijing News.
At the same time,Genuine Windows 7, Beijing also initiated a special food safety investigation into McDonald's chicken nuggets.
State standards for two chemical additives
According to the CNN report, the fast food chain's nuggets served in the United States contain preservatives called tertiary butylhydroquinone (tBHQ), a petroleum-based product, and dimethylpolysiloxane, an anti-foaming agent.
SFDA discussed the safety of the two additives on July 6. One officer said the administration organized monitoring of the chicken nuggets and other McDonald's products jointly with relative offices, and they also demanded the food service industry should strictly follow national standards when using additives in order to ensure public safety.
According to the public notice issued on Aug. 7, 2007 by China's Ministry of Health, dimethylpolysiloxane could be used in the processing of edible fat and meat products. The maximum allowable amounts are 10 milligrams per kilogram and 0.2 grams per kilogram for two kinds of products. The tBHQ could be used in fat, oil, chyle fat products and fried food with a maximum of 0.2 grams per kilogram.
SFDA launched a survey and evaluation of food safety in 2009,Office 2007, and no food product had been found with tBHQ over the national standard in the 930 batches of sample edible oil.
Administration to monitor overuse of additives
According to SFDA, whether the two chemical additives in McNuggets are out of line with standards or not will be determined after more monitoring, and that work has already started.
Former monitoring results in accord with normal national standard
As of now, Beijing Municipal Institute of Health Inspection (BIHI) has already launched a special survey program on the safety of McDonald's nuggets, including the levels of tBHQ and dimethylpolysiloxane.
Guo Zixia, the vice director of BIHI, said former inspections of the chicken nuggets found that they were in accord with normal national standards,Cheap Office 2007, excluding the two chemical additives. This inspection will definitely bring them into compliance if they are not currently.
Although there is no uniform method of inspection now,Office Standard 2010, the Health Ministry of China is organizing experts to study on publishing a mass admissive standard as soon as possible, Guo said.
