More than a quarter of the security products submitted for the recent Windows
Server 2008 R2 Virus Bulletin VB100 anti-malware tests failed to pass.
Products are tested and graded for detecting known pieces of malware and
reporting 'false positive' results on uninfected files.
Nine of the 33 products which underwent the June edition of the test failed
to register passing grades.
Products which failed the test included those from Norman,
Microsoft Office 2010 Professional Plus Key, eEye,
Buy Windows 7 Enterprise, bkis, Frisk,
Office Professional Plus 2007 Product Key,
Digital Defender and Virusfighter.
The testers found that the products performed unreliably when applied to
Windows Server 2008.
"Such unreliability is particularly significant on a server platform, where
administrators require absolute trustworthiness and total trackability of all
activities,
office 2010 Home and Business key," said Virus Bulletin director of testing John Hawes.
"A product demonstrating the sort of flaky behaviour we have seen in our
tests this month would cause major headaches for an administrator."
