I'm operating Windows 7 Ultimate with IE8 64bit.,

There appear to become two versions of IE8 on the machine. One in "Program Files"
and another in "Program Files (x86)". The version that seems to become the
default is from the "(x86)" folder. However although the (presumeably) 64bit
version does the job properly,

of IE tasks extant (*32 version). Seems to occur when trying to access a
link from one page to another for (perhaps) a file transfer which seems to
fail in some way. I can find no extra information as to what has happened,
