The wrong news is that the NSA clearly has been overstepping the law (Add: including the outrageous monitoring of calls among a member of Congress and one professed Muslim extremist.) The good news is that 1 of the safeguards in the law is a review procedure that seems to have the ability to arrest the NSA when it’s overstepping–and that the illegal activities have been exposed, and rapidly. I still deem that the government have to have always the legal tools by its disposal to trail and stop those who mean to do us impair. The FISA revisions codified those tools. It is infuriating that the government can’t appear to abide by them. But it’s a good sign that Eric Holder’s Justice Department is doing its job, calling out the NSA for its unfit action. I wish that Holder’s vigilance sends a remove information to the NSA almost its appropriate role–but if the illegal movement continues,
Gucci Shoulder Bags, those responsible should be launched and indicted.
Update and Clarification: On closer inspection–and clearer reading–it seems that the unlawful monitoring of the unnamed Congressman’s cries took location in 2005 and 2006, well ahead the current FISA statute was drafted. It had nobody to do with the recent “over-collection.”
Those of us who supported FISA reform final annual did so as two reasons: 1. There is a real absence to monitor conversations terrorists may be having with their associates in the US and 2. There is a real need apt set lawful limits above the government’s competence to monitor those chats, to make sure that every servant target is agreed along the FISA court, and to determine that anybody innocents swept up in the data-mining process are protected and their labels expunged from whichever menu of suspects. Those who opposed the program believed–correctly–that,
Gucci Wallets, despite the safeguards, the potential for government violations was actual.
Again,
Coach Travel Bags, the magnitude of this issue depends on how you look the government–as benign alternatively hateful. There are some who discern the government as eternally benign and many others who look it as perpetually hateful. I’m in neither camp. Clearly, the covert instruments of government have been misused in the past,
Coach Luggage Bags, egregiously by the Nixon and George W. Bush Administrations (and perpetually, by J. Edgar Hoover’s FBI). But I simply don’t see a concentrated, purposeful effort to spy on innocent American citizens–most of these cases comprise inadvertent screwups. Indeed, I’m sure–given my volume of calls to and from Islamic countries–that I’ve been caught in the net on occasion. I don’t care. I’m far more cared about the potential of terrorists to bring an end to ... different horrific event than I am about the allied government’s desire to build a Big Brother state. But, for I said on, if we detect examples of purposeful, illegal behavior by NSA employees, they should be fired and prosecuted.
