Book tells how Tate ############## recovered two stolen paintings ...

It was in December 2000 that the Tate ############## in London announced that they had recovered two paintings by the artist Turner which had been stolen in 1994. The paintings were taken when on loan to a museum in Frankfurt. The recovered was the conclusion of eight years of negotiations to secure the paintings <a href="http://zhengxing.99mr.com/yanjiaochuzhou/"><strong>æ*¦æ±‰çœ¼è§’除皱</strong></a> returns. Director of Programmes at the Tate is Sandy Nairne, a curator more used to the world of academia who had to play the role of detective in order to recover the lost art. The story is told in a book by Mr Nairne, who was working with a veteran art thief detective Rocky Rokoszynski to recover the paintings. Mr Nairne had the authority to recover the paintings which was granted by governmental bodies as well as the courts. The German authorities also allowed him permission to investigate the crime in Germany. During the book he takes many trips to Frankfurt where he meets many people associated with the theft, which he believes to have been conducted by Balkan mobsters. Mr Nairne also has dealings with a lawyer who is acting as the broker for those who are in possession of the paintings. The thieves have already been arrested but those holding the art demanded over £3 million for the paintings release. The Tate had already been <a href="http://zhengxing.99mr.com/xiaoyanzhengjiaozheng/"><strong>å°�眼症矫æ*£</strong></a> compensated the value of the art to the sum of nearly £25 million. The operation to recover the paintings cost the Tate over £3 million and the paintings were finally recovered after the organising of a clever deal, for around £8 million. The second half of the book focuses less on this specific case and more on art theft in general. It looks at the ethics of the ransom or reward system. There is an important <a href="http://zhengxing.99mr.com/gongzhenxizhi/"><strong>共振å�¸è„‚</strong></a> distinction between the two words here. A ransom is where someone holds the painting and demands money for its safe return, this is illegal. A reward is where someone is paid for successfully recovering the painting, this is legal. In the book Mr Nairne argues that when the Tate paid those who were holding the paintings, it was not a random payment, but a reward for recovering such an important piece of work. He makes clear the difference, as the paying of ransom money would encourage further theft. This area of law is somewhat grey but Mr Rokoszynski said that the law clearly shows what was paid was a reward and not a ransom.
