Just like your friends, you probably thought you knew everything about us, but here are some of our favorite factoids that we wanted to share. 1. (In the US, Microsoft matches employees’ time with a donation of $17 for each hour of volunteer work to the eligible organizations served.) During the same year, employees donated $42.2 million through the year-round Giving Programs. Microsoft matched those donations with another $42 million, bringing total donations to $84.2 million. 4. Bill Gates is kind of a big deal v. 1.0: After Bill Gates introduced Internet Explorer 5.0 at a March 1999 launch event, more than 1 million downloads of the new version took place within a week. 5. The Microsoft Campus Shuttle system makes more than 100,000 trips per month. That’s more than most transit systems operated in cities with about 1 million residents. 6. We’re innovators: Earlier this month, Microsoft was awarded our 10,Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2007,000th US patent. 7. We love to drink soda – especially when we don’t have to pay for it! Nearly 8 million free drinks are consumed on Microsoft’s corporate campus each year. The top three drinks of choice are Lemon-Lime Talking Rain, Diet Coke and Natural Talking Rain. The least popular drink? Caffeine-free Diet Pepsi. 8. With a worldwide presence of more than 200 million gamers, Windows is the biggest games platform in the world. 9. Bill Gates is kind of a big deal v. 1.2: He’s buddies with Jerry Seinfeld.

Microsoft reimburses tuition fees and textbooks for approved work-related courses for its employees, and provides in-house training programs for technical and non-technical skills.

When Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast of the United States in 2005, Microsoft worked with the American Red Cross to create a people-finder solution, Katrinasafe.org (now called Safe and Well), to reunite families and communities that have been affected by disasters.
