Just like your friends, you probably thought you knew everything about us, but here are some of our favorite factoids that we wanted to share. 1. Bill Gates is kind of a big deal v. 1.0: After Bill Gates introduced Internet Explorer 5.0 at a March 1999 launch event, more than 1 million downloads of the new version took place within a week. 5. The Microsoft Campus Shuttle system makes more than 100,000 trips per month. That’s more than most transit systems operated in cities with about 1 million residents. 6. We’re innovators: Earlier this month, Microsoft was awarded our 10,Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2007,000th US patent. 7. We love to drink soda – especially when we don’t have to pay for it! Nearly 8 million free drinks are consumed on Microsoft’s corporate campus each year. The top three drinks of choice are Lemon-Lime Talking Rain, Diet Coke and Natural Talking Rain. Microsoft reimburses tuition fees and textbooks for approved work-related courses for its employees, and provides in-house training programs for technical and non-technical skills.

When Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast of the United States in 2005, Microsoft worked with the American Red Cross to create a people-finder solution, Katrinasafe.org (now called Safe and Well), to reunite families and communities that have been affected by disasters.
