Sa Binic se vend comme des petits pains. Cette drôle de lampe a été conçue par Ionna Vautrin, jeune designer bretonne qui a fait ses armes chez les frères Bouroullec. Son nom commence à briller dans ce monde plutôt fermé du design. Rencontre.

Elle est sympathique, à la fois élégante et espiègle avec sa bouille ronde et son corps frêle. Elle s'appelle Binic. Un drôle de nom pour une lampe, conçue par une drôle de dame, Ionna Vautrin, jeune (et brillante) designer de 31 ans. Binic et sa conceptrice ont un petit air de famille: lumineuses, toutes les deux. Binic, ça sent la mer. Comme un clin d'oeil, la lampe évoque les cheminées des cargos, les manches à air des bateaux. Binic est un hommage au port costarmoricain et à son petit phare, un nom qui sonne bien dans toutes les langues, explique IonnaVautrin. Classiques ou branchés, la petite Binic plaît à tout le monde. Ionna est très modeste. Elle se dit «la première surprise» par ce succès. Plus de20.000 exemplaires vendus à ce jour! Binic est le fruit d'années de maturation.
De l'électroménager aux lampes
Ionna Vautrin a grandi près de Nantes. Elle a 5 ans quand un potier lui ouvre son atelier. C'est là que naît, dit-elle, son goût pour les objets, son envie de dessiner, sa passion et sa motivation. Assez vite, elle veut en faire son métier. Ses parents, grossistes en produits frais bio, ne sont pas très chauds. Ce monde du design n'est pas très accessible. Le bac en poche, elle entre à l'École de design de Nantes-Atlantique. Après cinq ans de formation et d'initiation, elle peut commencer à barouder. Elle dessine des chaussures pour Camper, aux Baléares, ravie, dit-elle, de commencer sa vie professionnelle dans les produits industriels. Puis Milan, la capitale du design, va lui ouvrir les bras. Chez George Sowden - une référence - elle se branche sur l'électroménager, elle relooke Robots Marie et autres moulinettes. Toujours de l'industriel. Avec d'autres jeunes designers, elle s'immerge avec délectation dans le Salon du meuble de Milan, le rendez-vous des créateurs du monde entier. «C'est notre festival de Cannes!», dit-elle dans un éclat de rire. Ionna nous fait découvrir ses premières créations. Tout d'abord, «Jeannette et Jacquette», des objets blancs agrémentés de dentelle de porcelaine. «Un clin d'oeil à mes grands-mères!», commente Ionna. Elle crée une tirelire baptisée, non sans humour, «Pour ma retraite». Ionna a suffisamment de bouteille et entre dans l'atelier de grands, celui des (jeunes) frères bretons Erwan et Ronan Bouroullec. Après le boulot, Ionna passe à ses propres créations. Elle vole vers des contrées lointaines. Vont naître ainsi les Moaïs, une forêt de lampes de toutes les couleurs, clin d'oeil, cette fois, aux célèbres statues de l'île de Pâques.
Un oiseau rare dans le design
Un maître du luminaire, Foscarini, fait appel à elle. Il veut donner sa chance à une femme, oiseau rare dans le design. Il veut une petite lampe, à un prix abordable (rare aussi dans le secteur!). La gestation de Binic aura été rapide: 13 mois avant de voir le jour, en octobre2010. La petite Binic s'envole. Ionna Vautrin aussi: elle a décroché, en décembre dernier, le Grand prix de la Ville de Paris. Une reconnaissance de la profession. «Je ne fais pas ce métier pour devenir star mais pour pouvoir vivre de ce que j'ai envie de faire». Désormais, elle le peut. Elle travaille chez elle, et pour elle. Début avril, Ionna va présenter à Milan «Forêt illuminée», une lampe en papier et un miroir bombé baptisé «oeil de sorcière». Elle aime toujours sa petite Binic, sa création. Elle la regarde avec tendresse. «Quand je la vois maintenant, je me sens un peu dépossédée. Elle vole de ses propres ailes». Elle va mener son petit bonhomme de chemin. Tout comme Ionna Vautrin.
