To shop for baseball caps and apparel visit hatzhop.com.
The official site for the National Hall of Fame is located in Cooperstown New York. It is not only the Hall of Fame but a semi-official museum that is operated privately. It displays artifacts and exhibits related to baseball, and honors plays who excelled in the sport. The halls motto reads Preserving History, Honoring Excellence, Connecting Generations. The Hall of Fame was dedicate in June of 1939 by the a private organization called the Clark Foundation. The foundation wanted to bring tourists to Cooperstown and re-establish the tourism market after the great depression.
It didnt take long before major leagues began to cooperated with the Hall of Fame. After all they recognized a marketing opportunity when they saw it. Today the Hall of Fame not only honors baseball players but it houses an large collection of memorabilia that is open to the public for viewing.
Tin 1936 the first five men were elected to the hall of fame. The group consisted of Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth, Christy Mathewson, Walter Johnson, and Honus Wagner. As of 2005 there have been 216 players elected, 17 managers, 8 umpires, and 23 executives, organizers, or builders for a total of 260 men.
To be inducted into the Hall of Fame you must elected by either the Baseball Writers Association of America or the Veteran Committee which is made up of retired major league players. Any player who gets 75% or more of a ballet is elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame. Occasionally under special circumstances a player may be elected into the Hall Of Fame without meeting all the requirements. This has only happened a few times in the history of the Hall of Fame.
