Academic Excellence
UCLA is one of the world’s great research universities, number 11 in London’s Times Higher Education rankings (2010-2011). Our faculty includes Nobel Laureates

Our freshmen and transfer students have a 91% success and progress rate – that’s the percentage who graduate or remain in good standing after four years (two for transfers). Many seniors choose capstone projects as part of their degree programs.
Campus Life and Diversity
There are almost 40,000 students at UCLA, roughly 27,000 undergraduates and 13

L.A. Culture and Lifestyle
The campus is a cultural magnet for the entire Southern California region. UCLA Live! performances fill Royce Hall with enthusiastic audiences for music, dance and the spoken word. The Hammer museum is a showplace for emerging artists, with a rich public offering of forums, readings, lectures and family programs. The Film & Television Archive screens new, classic and international films in the Billy Wilder Theater. The Fowler museum explores global arts and cultures, past and present; free programs include Culture Fix and Kids in the Courtyard.
Intriguing public programs are also offered by academic departments, especially music, theater, architecture, and design. See Happenings for schedules and department links.
UCLA Sports are also an important part of the L.A. lifestyle, from football at the Rose Bowl to basketball in Pauley Pavilion. UCLA was the first university to win 100 NCAA team championships.
Impact and Engagement
The ultimate goal of a public research university is the creation and application of knowledge to better the lives and well-being of those around us. Recent noteworthy efforts include the Luskin Center’s solar energy plan for Los Angeles and an engineering team’s high-tech separator to remove oil from water. UCLA’s Office of Intellectual Property has licensed innovative technologies to 104 California companies.
We work to instill a lifelong service ethic among our students
Pandora Online, beginning with experiences like Operation Gratitude (during Orientation) and UCLA Volunteer Day (upon arrival on campus).
