Student rapes schoolmate in hallway
A Savannah High student raped a female schoolmate in a campus hallway during school hours earlier this month, Savannah-Chatham public schools officials said Thursday.
On May 5, the 16-year-old male student allegedly assaulted the female student of the same age on the second floor of the school's "A" wing,franklin et marshall, according to Campus Police Department Chief Ulysses O. Bryant Jr.
"Subsequent investigation by campus police has substantiated that an alleged act did occur," Bryant said Thursday afternoon. "Since that time, there has been one arrest in the case."
The Savannah Morning News does not identify victims of ######ual assault and has chosen to not yet disclose the name of the alleged attacker.
Court documents indicate warrants were executed May 13 for the male student's arrest on adult charges that include rape, criminal attempt to commit aggravated sodomy, false imprisonment and kidnapping.
As of Thursday night, he was in custody at the Savannah Regional Youth Detention Center.
He is scheduled to appear at a June 1 preliminary hearing in Chatham County Superior Court,polo ralph lauren shirts, documents show. He also could face district administrative sanctions, Bryant said.
It was unknown whether the victim was still enrolled at the school. She has since sought counseling from the school district and the Coastal Children's Advocacy Center, Bryant said. He also declined to disclose whether the assailant and the victim knew each other.
It was not clear whether there was a hall monitor in the vicinity of where the act occurred, but several teachers and staff members were in the area,christian louboutin, Bryant said.
"I really don't see whether the hall monitors, whether they were there or not,franklin marshall, played a factor," he said. "We have plenty of faculty and staff there. ...

Bryant said he could not recall any recent similar incidents at any of the schools. In August 2007, an 18-year-old Beach High School female athlete claimed she was raped by a vaguely described male suspect in a locker room. Campus police deemed her claim false a few months later.
This month's incident does not mean the quality of safety in the school has diminished,christian louboutin pas cher, Bryant said.
"I would say our kids are still safe in our schools," he said. "I don't have any qualms about my grandchildren attending the public schools.
"It's just like any other place: You have to be aware of your surroundings, and parents have to be involved and listen to their kids."
Bryant said there's always room for improvement. The district planned to look at whether other measures should be taken to prevent such crimes from reoccurring.
