My betta has pretty bad fin rot (i didnt catch it early). His fins are all red. I cant find a good medicine. People say melafix but i dont like it. I heard of Kanacyn, tetracycline, and jungle fungus eliminator. football jerseys which is the best one? plz include link. HELP!! No, do NOT use Melafix, it can cause gunking up of your betta's gills, and it's herbal, which is great if it worked, but it doesn't. The best treatment for bacterial infections (which fin rot is), is Kanaplex/Kanamycin. It's best for any range of infections and easiest on the fish, but it's available online only unless you have a great local fish store. I'd definitely get it to have on hand though, for this fish or another (

You can get it at PetCo or PetSmart. (
http://www.petco.com,
http://www.petsmart.com). If you can't get that pick up Maracyn 1 and 2 (yes, both, since each only treat one type of infection and you need a broad-spectrum antibiotic). You can find both at PetSmart, Pet Supplies Plus and Petco. (
http://www.petco.com,
http://www.petsuppliesplus.com.
http://www.petsmart.com). Maracyn is recommended less than the other two because it's been around a lot longer and sometimes doesn't treat current infections because it's not as potent and has been overused. If he's in a cycled tank, take out NFL jerseys cheap the carbon because it removes the med. Also, with either Kana or Jungle, you can treat daily for 3 days (doing the appropriate water changes for your tank size) and retreat if necessary for another 3 days. The other poster is right that fin rot is usually caused by poor water conditions, though some bettas especially if purchased from a big box store can be prone to it because of the bad conditions they were in while at the store, even if given pristine conditions in your care. Make sure your betta has a heater that keeps his temp. around 78, and if he's in anything less than a 10 gallon, and it's a 100% water change tank, his water needs to be competely changed at least 2x's a week, depending on your exact gallons.
